Welfare Rights

The Association continues to offer Welfare Benefits advice and assistance to Thistle HA tenants. This year our Welfare Rights Officer, Lesley Johnston, has helped tenants with a wide range of benefit enquiries, claims and appeals including Housing Benefit, various disability benefits such as Personal Independence Payment (PIP) and Attendance Allowance, Employment & Support Allowance (ESA) and Tax Credits. In addition, many successful applications to the Scottish Welfare Fund have enabled new tenants to move into their homes more comfortably, with the provision of essential items like carpets, cookers and beds.

The Welfare Benefits system is hugely complicated and it is no wonder that people sometimes struggle to cope with or understand what is being asked of them. A little assistance can sometimes make a lot of difference, and tenants are welcome to contact us if you need any help, or even if you just wish to have a benefit check carried out. Anything discussed is, of course, in complete confidence.

If you need advice or assistance with any benefits issues, contact Lesley to make an appointment. Home visits are also available for those who are unable to manage into the office.
